  3. Converting from Diopters to Radii

  5. The ophthalmometer power drums marked with both dioptric and radius values and has a range from 35 D. (9.64 mm) to 60 D. (5.62 mm).

  7. The dioptric value  is converted to radius by using 
  8. the following formula:
  9.                                                         (1.3375-1.00)
  10.                 radius (meters)=       -------------
  11.                                                       diopters

  13. Usually you want the value in millimeters, to 
  14. obtain the millimeter value you can multiply 
  15. the above result by 1000 or more easily use 
  16. the following formula:
  17.                                                                           337.5
  18.                              radius (mm)=    ----------

  21. Most contact lens textbooks and manuals that come with the keratometer provide tables have conversion tables 
  22.                         Contact lens laboratories often supply them.
